Post Katrina Pictures - Slidell and Hwy 11
If you've been a reader here for a while, you'll know that I recently returned from a trip down to Slidell and New Orleans Louisiana to help family members begin the process of putting their lives back together. I'm still working on reducing the video that I took into a manageable size for the web and editing out all the useless garbage, but I thought I'd just get started and put some pictures up.
First, we have a small video of Hwy 11 leading to Lake Ponchatrain. This stretch of Hwy 11 leads into the marshlands on the North Shore of the lake. On the right side of the Hwy are a series of "camps". "Camps" in this sense are essentially homes built on pilings driven into the marsh. The intense winds reduced many of these homes to piles of matchsticks. The vid is a little shaky as I was simply holding my digital camera out of the window of the truck I was driving. So please forgive if it jumps around a bit.

Next are just a series of pictures from different locations in Slidell and New Orleans, I'll put a brief caption, but I just want to get these out there while I'm still working on the narrative of the entire trip. Click the on the pictures for a larger image.

Here's a series of Images from Hwy 11.
I just want to reiterate that these images were shot a full month after the Hurricane's passage, 2 days after New Orleans East and many other areas of the city were opened. I'll be posting more video and images over the next few days, so if you're interested, please check back. Next up, Abramson High School.

Jason, I see so much of my street in Slidell. I used to live at 4469 Ponchertrain dr # 5. My apt was SAVED! So, if you have ANY pics of my stuff out on the curb, put there by my landlord, I sure would appreciate it. I could not make it back there till the beggining of Oct.The stairs were washesd out, and no way to move. My landlord KNEW this, but still put all my stuff out. Mind you, I was on the 3rd floor of this apt build! My landlord moved into MY apt. and that was o.k. by me, knowing he had lost all of his home in Miss.
BY the time I could get there... My baby books, my clothes, my tools were all gone! EXCEPT for my grandmothers antiques, whom my landlord kept inside his (MY) apt.! He said that all my tools were stolen, and that "He needed someplace to live". He had NOTHING!!! Except the things that I left in my apt. and he KEPT! I, in fact, while there, I DID give him some dishes and stuff that were still in the apartment, never thinking that he had "kept" all this stuff for himself anyway. I just wanted to get my belongingings that I needed and leave. My husbannd I I were not allowed in the bedroom, and to this we did not think alot about at the time, as his dog was in there. But, hindsight is 20/20....
I guess I was in a sort of shock, and did not even THINK that this man would do this to me, but, he did. I SAW all my clothes, and stuff in the mud. On the side of the road.
I knew that I could not retieve the things that I was there for at my moms house, (another location) She was on William Tell street....her house was flooded BAD, along with my little red truck!
But..HOW do I PROVE that Ben threw out all my stuff? Can you help me? P.S. I SAW my stuff, but the thing is PROVIG it. I sure hope you can help me, thanks, and if you canot, well, thanks for listening. I miss Slidell SO MUCH! I want to be back home!!! Take care, T
